GRIBBERIKET - Knefall (2013)
Genre: Black/Doom metal
Rating:  9/10

Norway is infamous when it comes to Black metal, unfortunately that has it's positives and negatives. During the last 10-15 years, alot of the negatives has reared their ugly head, by tons of shitty bands with nothing original or inspired to put forward.
There's still a good bands mind you, if you know where to look and that's where Gribberiket comes in.
It's by no means original but it's genuine, it's raw, and it has an atmosphere, which is getting rarer and rarer these days. What Gribberiket offers with their tape Knefall, is a mix of black/doom metal, filled with misanthropic themes, hate and pure unrelented anguish put to music. The songs are long and monotonous, but far from becoming tedious or boring. personally I find it to be a strenght to make long songs, using few riffs, and just letting the atmosphere of the song carry it. And the atmosphere on Knefall is almost palpable.  And much of this is achieved by the vocals alone, there's no vocals that has ever sounded as desperate as the ones on this album, Well except for thos you find in the vocalist's other band Utarm.
The album contains only 5 songs, and it's fairly slow-paced. with only Høst having a more mid paced tempo. Minimal soundscapes built up by simple basslines, and guitars that at times could probably even pierce through to a deaf person.  It's hypnotic in it's simplicity.
The album is only available on tape, or via download through recordsofthefleshgod.
Give it a listen, buy and support the band if you enjoy the audial hell Gribberiket unleashes.
